Tips for Pet Owners Buying a HomeMany people consider pets part of the family and therefore pets are a big consideration in the homes we choose to live in together. Some considerations: - Neighborhood considerations – walking paths, off-leash dog parks, proximity of other pets
- Safety – many neighborhoods have open space areas that are home to wildlife such as coyotes, foxes, and some snakes.
If you have small cats, small dogs or other small animals, you need to be cautious and keep an eye on these animals and inside between dusk and dawn. - Look for a location that will be calm and quiet: not a lot of traffic, not close to a fire station, etc.
- For outdoor pets, size and condition of yard and fence is important, as well as shade and shelter.
- Be sure you know where the nearest emergency veterinary clinic is located.
At its most basic level, humane education is about learning to care for the animals in our homes and communities. It is about fostering kindness, respect and empathy for both human and nonhuman animals, and looking after the environment and its diverse habitats. Unlike science and other academic disciplines, humane education has a philosophical component that strives to establish a sense of responsibility and make the world a better, more humane place.
